Photography

Growing up I really enjoyed art. Before high school, my first real mentor was my middle school art teacher. He taught me that it was okay to have ideas that went against the grain, and shared stories with me about his experiences growing up, having professors and instructors harshly criticize his work. In one anecdote, he had to compose a series of paintings that depicted a particular emotion. After submitting his work, he was told “angst is not a real emotion.”

Needless to say, this teacher had a great impact on my perception of art, as well as my desire to create. However, as time went on, I lost interest in Photoshop and painting and spent my time on more “practical” things. I became the kid that built / fixed computers, I got a job that occupied much of my free time during high school, and I generally found myself involved with only very “practical” endeavors. Until recently I had totally lost any spark of interest in creative works such as photography, painting, sketching, etc.

Recently, however, I purchased a digital SLR camera. I’ve wanted to get into photography for a few years, but never had the time or money, or always came up with some compelling excuse not to do it. This is no longer the case. As you can see, I’ve shared some of my photos throughout this site, and you can visit my Flickr profile here.
